General FAQ's about the Jimmi' Jammer®

Q: How hard are they to install?
A: Our kits are easy to install. In general, you remove the door trim panel and the plate bolts onto the backside of the door handle using factory handle mounting locations. No cutting or drilling is required for most models! Each kit comes with complete installation instructions and there are several on-line tutorials in our Support section of this web site.

Q: How much do they cost?
A: We sell our products only through authorized dealers who set their own prices, however, most of our Jimmi' Jammer kits will cost between $50 - $75 depending on the model. Installation is extra and will vary by model, but expect to pay up to 1 hour of labor per door at the shop rate for professional installation. Call your local dealer for details on pricing.

Jimmi' Jammer® FAQ's for GM Vehicles (Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC)

GM Truck FAQ's (Silverado, Sierra, Avalanche, Escalade EXT)

Q: Does one package cover two doors?
A: YES. There are two plates (one right and one left) in each package.

Q: On a twin cab truck, do I need plates on the rear passenger doors?
A: Depends on the vehicle. We monitor incoming calls and emails and ask customers about what thieves did to their vehicles. Some vehicles definitely need a rear door kit, and in those cases, we do provide them. Here is a rundown of what we provide:
For the rear doors on 2007 - 13 body style trucks and SUV's we have not heard of a thief going in through the rear doors, so we do not provide a kit for that body style.
For 1999-2006 and 2007 Classic Body trucks or 2000 - 2006 SUV's, we have heard many instances where the thief attacked the back doors to get at something laying in the back seat. For these vehicles, we did make a rear door kit. PN 031505 which has been discontinued.
For the rear doors on 1988 - 98 trucks or 1992 - 99 SUV's, (Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade) we do not make a kit.

Q: I would like to replace my front door handles on my 99-06 body style truck/SUV with rear door handles to get rid of the lock altogether. Will it work?
A: Not easily. The mounting studs on the handles are placed slightly differently between front and rear handles. Therefore, to put rear handles on your front doors you would have to do some modifications to the door metal on your truck to accept the rear handle. It is not an easy operation and not really worth the trouble as it would still be possible for a thief to get in anyway by prying the handle away from the door metal to get at the other rods in the door cavity.

Q: My truck only has a key lock on the drivers side, should I install a Jimmi' Jammer® on the passenger door even though there is no key lock?
A: Yes, install a plate on your passenger door as well. The lock rods on the passenger door may still be accessible to an experienced thief so it is important to block access to them.

Q: Is there a Jimmi' Jammer® kit for the Avalanche and Cadillac EXT?
A: Yes. The Avalanche and EXT use the same kit as other full size GM trucks, 99 -06. Order PN 031502 for front doors.PN 031505 for the rear doors has been discontinued. For 2007-13 Avalanche or EXT, order PN 031548.

Q: Is there a separate Jimmi' Jammer® kit for the smaller S-Series trucks?
A: No. The S-10/15 trucks have their own design especially for the smaller trucks and SUV's, but  PN 051800 has been discontinued..

Q: How long does it take to install the Jimmi' Jammer® plate?
A: For old body style vehicles (1988-1998) and S-Series vehicles, depending on your familiarity with the door components, installation will take between 20 and 45 minutes per door.

For body style vehicles 1999 - 2013, installation time will be about 30 minutes per door, depending on your familiarity with the door components. Beginners should add about 20 minutes to the above times. Visit our Support section for installation tutorials.

Q: Is there a Jimmi' Jammer® kit for 2014 and newer Chevy, GMC trucks and SUVs?
A: No. On 2014 and newer models, GM changed the door handle to a two piece arrangement. The part with the lock cylinder in it snaps on from the outside and there are no anchor points inside the door cavity to attach a Jimmi' Jammer® plate. Also, the construction of the door is such that there is not room to install a plate inside the door cavity.

GM SUV FAQ's (Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade)

Q: Do I need plates on the rear passenger doors?
A: Due to the quantity of requests, we have designed a plate especially for the rear passenger doors on the 99-06 GM trucks and SUV's. These kits have two plates designed just for the rear passenger doors.
For SUV's. (Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade) 1992 - 1999, order no rear passenger plates are available.
For SUV's. (Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade) 2000 - 2006, PN 031505 for rear passenger doors has been discontinued.
For SUV's. (Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade) 2007-13, No rear passenger door kit is available. Please call or email us if your vehicle is jimmied through a rear passenger door.

For cargo doors, see below...

Q: Is there a plate for the rear barn door style cargo door?

---Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon or Escalade vehicles manufactured between 1992 - 1999
A: No. Due to the sheet metal forming inside the rear cargo door, a plate cannot be bolted to the back of the door handle. Since most cargo doors have an electric lock actuator inside the cab, we recommend replacing the cargo door handle with one like the right rear passenger side door handle. This handle doesn't have a lock cylinder, so you will then have to lock and unlock using the electric actuator only. This will require some modification of the lock rods, but it is relatively easy to do and will eliminate the possibility of break in through the cargo door. A good body shop or custom shop could do this for you as well.

---Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon or Escalade vehicles manufactured between 2000 - 2006
A: Lift gate or tailgate style cargo doors are different and a plate is not required. Swing open doors may be vulnerable, but we do not often hear of break in attempts through this door.

---Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon or Escalade vehicles 2007 -13
A: We do not offer a plate for cargo doors on these vehicles.

Jimmi' Jammer® FAQ's for Dodge Vehicles have been discontinued. This section remains for reference.

Q: Where did all the RAM and Dodge Jimmi' Jammer choices go?
A: As of June 2022 we have sold out and discontinued all RAM Jimmi' Jammer models. The reason is slow sales on the older models, and door design changes on the latest models that make installation of our plates too difficult. Sorry for any inconvenience or problems this may cause.

Q: Do the 2009- newer RAMs use the same kit as 2002-08?
A: No. For the 1500 series, the handle changed in '09 so the Jimmi' Jammer for older models will not fit. See PN 072231.

Q: Do I need plates on the rear doors of my 2002-08 twin cab truck?
A: Yes! This is a relatively new problem where the thieves are attacking the rear doors. We offer a Jimmi' Jammer® kit for the rear passenger doors on 2002+ 1500 series and 2003+ 2500/3500 series trucks, including the Mega Cab. For the rear passenger doors, order PN 072220.

Q: Do I need plates on the rear doors of my 94-01 1500 series or 94-02 2500/3500 series twin cab truck?
A: Possibly. Although we haven't had many calls regarding the rear doors on these trucks, we have had a few. Some customers have chosen to order two of our standard front door kits and use one set on the rear doors. If you want to do this for the rear passenger doors, order PN 072100. (Fits only the older body style RAMs.)

Q: Is the Jimmi' Jammer® available for the 2004 - 08 Dakota and 2005-08 Durango?
A: Yes! We have the Jimmi' Jammer for this body style of Dakota and Durango. Visit our model description to see which kit to order.

Q: Will a plate work on the rear cargo door of my Durango?
A: No. The rear cargo door is constructed differently and will not allow a plate to be installed.

Q: How long does it take to install the Jimmi' Jammer® plate?
A: For old body style Ram trucks (94-01), and depending on your familiarity with the door components, installation will take between 30 and 45 minutes per door.

For 02-08 style Ram trucks, installation time will be about 30 minutes per door, depending on your familiarity with the door components.
For 09 and newer Ram trucks, installation time will be about 45 minutes per door on the first one, but depends on your familiarity with the door components.

For Dakota and Durango, allow about 30-45 minutes per door. Visit our Support page to see installation tutorials for most models. Beginners should allow additional time.

Jimmi' Jammer® FAQ's for Ford Vehicles

Q: Is there a Jimmi' Jammer® kit for 2021 and newer F150 or Raptor trucks?

A: At this time we do not have a kit for the latest F150 or Raptor trucks. The door handle style has changed so our current kit will not work.

Q: Do the plates prevent a thief from pushing the lock cylinder into the door cavity using a screwdriver?
A: The Jimmi' Jammer® for Ford trucks/SUV's. uses extra steel behind the lock cylinder to help prevent the cylinder from being smashed into the door. That said, depending on how much force the thief is able to apply, even that may not be enough. Consider getting rid of the lock cylinders altogether for maximum security, or at least cover them up to make it look like they are gone. Take a look here for options PunchPlug or LockCap.

Q: If I get rid of the lock cylinder(s), will I be able to get in if my battery dies?
A: In most cases, even if the battery is too weak to start the vehicle, it will probably have enough juice to operate the lock actuators. Of course, if you have a severe electrical issue, the actuators may not work. In this case, you would need to get the hood open to get the battery jumped. This would be a very rare occurrence, but you should be aware that it is possible.

Q: Why do thieves break in this way? Isn't it easier to break a window?
Thieves like to pry in around the handle or punch the lock because it is fast, easy and doesn't attract attention like smashing a window might. Also, on many factory alarm systems, when a screwdriver is used to move the lock rods, the alarm brain is tricked into thinking the key has been used to unlock the door and therefore the alarm will not activate.

Super Duty, F250, F350, F450, Excursion specific questions (scroll down for other models.)

Q: Is there a Jimmi' Jammer® kit for my 2023 or newer Super Duty truck?
A: No. Not at this time.here.

Q: Is there a Jimmi' Jammer® kit for my 2017 -2022 Super Duty or Raptor truck?
A: Yes. Read about it here.

Q: Do I need Jimmi' Jammer plates on the rear passenger doors of my 4 door Super Duty truck or Excursion?
A: Yes! We originally thought that the rear doors would not be attacked by thieves since there is no lock cylinder. We have since learned that the thieves are indeed able to break in through the rear doors even though there is no lock cylinder. They can pry the handle away from the door metal enough to get a piece of wire into the door. Then, they know where to grab a rod at the latch assembly to open the door. Same goes for the front passenger door on newer models that doesn't have a lock cylinder. Put the plate on every door! For the rear doors of your 4 door Super Duty or Excursion, order as follows:
1999-2016 models, order PN 103010.
2017 and newer models, order PN 113725.

Q: If I replace the front door handles on my 1999-16 Super Duty or Excursion with rear door handles to get rid of the lock cylinder altogether, will that be enough to protect my vehicle?
A: NO! Although replacing the front handles with rear handles is possible, and may serve as a somewhat effective visual deterrent, entry can still be gained by prying under the handle and grabbing the lock rod at the door latch. If you plan to swap handles, you can easily add our Jimmi' Jammer® rear door kit (PN 103010) to both the front and rear doors to prevent thieves from getting to the latch with a wire or thin tool. If you want to eliminate the lock on your handle you can also check out our PunchPlug or LockCap products here.

Q: My 1999-2016 Super Duty truck has the keyless entry pad, will this interfere with the plate?
A: No. The plate will not be affected by the keyless entry pad or vice versa. This applies to Excursions also.

Q: How long does it take to install the Jimmi' Jammer® on my Super Duty or Excursion?
For 99-16 Super Duty trucks and Excursions, allow about 30 minutes per door. Each of these time estimates will vary depending on installer experience. Visit our Support section on this site to see installation tutorials. If you can change the door handle, you can do this installation!

For 2017 - 2022 Super Duty trucks, expect the drivers door to take about an hour or more depending on your experience. The other doors are easier so expect them to take less time. See our installation video here.

F150, Expedition specific questions

Q: Is there a Jimmi' Jammer® kit for 2021 and newer F150 trucks?
A: Not at this time.

Q: Is there a Jimmi' Jammer® kit available for my 2015 - 2020 F-150?

Yes! Read about it here

Q: Do I need Jimmi' Jammer® plates on the rear passenger doors of my 4 door F150 truck or Expedition/Navigator?
A: We have had several customer requests for rear door kits on these vehicles, so we now have kits available. See the model selection page. Also, if you have been burglarized and the thief entered through the rear doors, we would like to know about it. Pictures are always welcomed! Update: We have now had several calls where a thief entered thru the rear doors on an F150 and/or Expedition/Navigator. In each case, it has been to get something from the back seat, such as a laptop computer left there. The rear door Jimmi' Jammer® kits will protect the inner door lock components from attack!

Q: My F150 (2004 -14 ) has the keyless entry pad on the handle. Is a Jimmi' Jammer® plate necessary or will it even fit these handles?
These models have been discontinued. Sorry.

A: Yes the plate will fit, and yes it is necessary! We offer three different models for the 2004-14 F150s. Order as follows:
If your truck has the keyless entry pad on the front door, order PN 113400 and put the plates in both front doors!
If your truck DOES NOT have the keyless entry pad and has a lock cylinder on the passenger door, order PN 113450.
If your truck DOES NOT have the keyless entry pad AND does not have a lock on the passenger door, order PN 113451.

Q: My F150 (97-03 truck or 97-02 Expedition/Navigator) has the keyless entry pad on the handle. Is a Jimmi' Jammer® plate necessary or will it even fit these handles?
A: Yes the plate will fit, and yes it is necessary! The keyless entry pad is fastened to the handle using only one screw, and fastens to the plastic handle which can easily be cracked or broken. The plate for these vehicles helps hold the keypad in place, even if a thief is pushing on the keypad with a screwdriver. A popular method of entry is to just knock the keypad into the door and then use a screwdriver to detach the lock rod to open the door.

Q: How long does it take to install the Jimmi' Jammer®?
A: For 97-03 F150 and 97-02 Expedition/Navigator, allow about 30 minutes per door. For 2004 -14 F150 body style, allow about 30 minutes per door, depending on your familiarity with the door components. More time will be needed for beginners.
For 2015 - 2020 F150 trucks, and 2017 and newer SuperDuty or Raptor trucks, expect to spend an hour or more on the drivers door, depending on your experience. The other doors are easier and will take less time.
