Model Description
Page for 2007 body style GM trucks and SUVs |
The photo to the right shows one popular method of breaking into your 2007 GM truck or SUV. The thief puts a screwdriver onto the face of the lock and smashes the lock straight into the door! It's fast, easy and quiet, making this a favorite among thieves. It is commonly known as punching the lock. >
Another popular method is to pry in at the end of the handle, near the lock to get at the rods inside the door. This is also very easy to do since the seam between the handle and door metal is very weak.
What's the solution?
Read on... |

Notice that the lock has been punched into the door! |

Inside door, no plate. Lock is at the upper right corner of photo.

Handle with plate
|
< The top photo to the left shows the inside of your driver side door without a Jimmi' Jammer™ plate installed. The photo is taken at an angle from below the handle. Toward the top right corner, you can see the red lock pawl rod holder, and the lock rod attached to it. This point where the lock rod and pawl are connected is the spot they use to force the door to unlock.
Also notice that the lock is held in the handle with just plastic surrounding it. That is what makes this assembly vulnerable to a thief. When they smash the lock in, the plastic breaks when the lock retaining clip is forced inward. With the Jimmi' Jammer™ plate installed, the retaining clip is butted up to the plate, relieving the plastic from the impact.
< The bottom photo to the left shows a Jimmi' Jammer™ plate mounted on a 2007 GM door handle. The plate surrounds the lock cylinder, (near the center of the photo,) reinforcing the plastic, holding the lock in place, and blocking access to the lock rods inside the door. (Lock rods are not shown here for clarity.)
Notice the circular clamp around the lock cylinder holder. This clamp reinforces the lock cylinder holder and adds support behind the plate for strength. The factory supplied mounting bolt goes through the plate, adding more strength to the assembly.
The bend along the top edge of the plate is designed to help block a slim jim from grabbing the lock pawl/rod at the top. The bend along the bottom stiffens the plate adding strength. |
What about rear doors and passenger side front doors that don't have a lock cylinder on them?
Passenger side front door
The photo to the right shows the inside of a passenger side front door without the Jimmi' Jammer™ plate installed. Toward the right center of the picture, you can see a hole in the door metal where a lock would be if it were present. Even though there is no lock installed, there are other lock rods and the door latch mechanism below the handle in the door jamb. For obvious reasons, we won't further describe how they get in, but suffice it to say, they can and do!
If your front passenger side door doesn't have a lock either, you still need a plate on that door too! Your Jimmi' Jammer™ kit for this vehicle will come with two plates so you can protect both front doors.
Rear doors
On rear doors of a four door truck, or SUV, the door metal is filled in behind the handle. Therefore, we don't believe a plate is required on the rear doors for these vehicles. (Not so on most other model years.) |
